JBL Xtreme 2 Bluetooth Speaker Review

The JBL Xtreme 1 has been compared to the Neocore Wave A4 (reviewed here) by numerous buyers. And I can see why. They look very similar in terms of design, and some people who have owned both the A4 and Xtreme 1 have even claimed they are very similar when it comes to sound quality too. Which is surprising given the price difference.

However, The JBL Xtreme 2 is not the Xtreme 1. And while the A4 is comparable to the Xtreme 1, there is a reason why JBL is a world renown audio brand, and why the Extreme 2 is so expensive. The main reason is down to its ability to pump very loud music! The size of the Xtreme 2 is rather big for a Bluetooth speaker, but for the sound it can produce it surprises many people. The bass is enhanced nicely due to JBL's Bass Radiator. And treble is good. Review scores for practically all JBL Bluetooth speakers is extremely high.

The standout features for the JBL Xtreme 2 are as follows.

Build quality is superb, sound quality is considered as excellent by most users (its around 40 watts), and the battery life is very long @ 15 hours. This speaker, like many, has the ability to used wirelessly or wired. Hands-free speaker phone is built-in so calls from a Smartphone can be handled through the speaker. The unit is waterproof to the IPX7 standard. The unit takes around 3 and a half hours to reach a full charge and can be used whilst on charge. AUX connection makes the unit able to link to many other devices, such as tablets, Desktop PCs, mixers and Laptops etc.

Check out the video below for more information and a closer look at the Xtreme 2's design, build quality and controls.

This unit can also be used as a power bank thanks for the built-in battery and USB connection. Bluetooth Version = Bluetooth 5.0. The JBL Xtreme 2 is available in Blue, Red, Green, Black and  Camouflage (pictured above). It comes with a carry strap and a warranty. I don't know how long the warranty is, but you can extend it these days by paying a bit extra for your speaker and buying one of the many product breakdown protection / product insurance covers that are out there. Many companies provide this type of service. ProtectYourBubble.com offers a 3-year warranty on this item for a cheap price (Available on the Amazon listing for this speaker).

Worth Mentioning Issues

It's not all good news though. There are a few reports from consumers that at lower volumes the sound appears rather muffled. Although these complaints are dwarfed by the high number of reviewers that claim the sound quality, at low and high levels is excellent.

Another point worth being aware of is that when using this speaker in portable mode. As in, not plugged into the mains, it actually restricts the power of the speakers massively (some say to around 20 watts) in a bid to save battery life. Quite a few customers have been left unhappy with this "feature".  Also, there is no option to adjust the bass and treble

Overall it is a very good speaker, but does have its limitations as listed above. To be honest, I would not buy this model. It's too expensive for what it provides. There are so many cheaper, just as powerful Bluetooth speakers out there for sale. -SpeakerZap.
